Crash Course in Hebrew Reading

We are delighted to once again offer the original Crash Course in Hebrew Reading!

Rabbi Rashi and Ruthie Simon were the first to bring the 5-week Hebrew Reading Crash Course to the UK in 1989. With the iconic catchphrase “How to Read a 5000-year-old Language in 5 Easy Lessons” many hundreds of new Hebrew readers have delighted and at times astonished themselves with their ability to read the language of our ancestors, the Torah, siddur and Haggadah, not to mention modern Israel. Over the years, those newly-minted Hebrew readers, more comfortable, confident and knowledgeable about their heritage, have gone on to become communal activists, synagogue stalwarts, yeshiva students, seminary graduates, rabbis, teachers, Torah educators… The list goes on.

We will get in touch with you to confirm your place, and to let you know if you are among the first 12 students eligible for FREE registration.

Note that this subsidised course is intended to strengthen the connection of members of the Jewish community with their heritage. Hebrew classes at commercial rates are offered by other institutions. Thank you for your understanding.

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
