Beracha on Tzitzit

Dear Rabbi Simon,

Would taking off tsitsit to play football for one hour require a beracha when putting them back on?
Alex

Hi Alex,

I would not think so, however if you shower afterwards, then yes. Particularly if you have in mind that the berachah in the morning applies only until you take the ציצית off. Of course if it is after dark no berachah in any case. (BTW, there are those who do not even put their tzitzit back on if they are dressing after dark. My practice is to do so, however.)

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
