Fulfilment of Desire

Dear Rabbi Simon
Does G-d fulfil our desires in our lifetime, afterlife or next birth if we are righteous?
Thank you.
Dan

Hi Dan
Thank you for your question.
G-d does not necessarily fulfil anyone’s “desires”, however, as per Maimonides’ Principles of Faith #12, He does reward a person according to his or her deeds, whether in this world or the next.
The possibility of rebirth is subject to a range of opinions in the Torah literature, but this is generally seen as a chance to rectify a failing or shortcoming, or to complete a process of self-actualization “unfinished” from a previous life.
Best wishes

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
