Holocaust Theology

Dear Rabbi Simon
I am going to write an article to address the question of where Hashem was during the Holocaust.  Can you refer me to any resources? Do I need to read a book about Emuna [Belief in G-d]?
Sincerely,
Ariel

Hi Ariel,
This is indeed a difficult subject, both theologically and emotionally.  Two books I can recommend on this subject are Faith after the Holocaust, by Eliezer Berkovits and With Fury Poured Out by Bernard Maza.  They may be out print, but like so much else, eBay or Amazon may have them for you.
Best wishes
Rabbi Rashi Simon

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
