Pre-cut Vegetables on Pesach

Good morning, Rabbi Simon
Sorry to trouble you.
I can’t remember if we are allowed to use bags of pre-cut vegetables from quality retailers such as Marks & Spencer.  I obviously check them accordingly. I just can’t remember if we are allowed them for Pesach
Perry

Hi Perry
Thank you for your practical question. The pitfall with these lovely pre-cut vegetables is that they are often treated with citric acid to prevent discolouration. Citric acid may be derived from chametz 😐. So they are best avoided, or sourced from kosher purveyors such as Kosher Kingdom. Ditto for frozen.
Best wishes
Rabbi Rashi Simon

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
