Holy Electricity

Dear Rabbi Simon
What does it mean to feel that “Holy Electricity” that runs through one’s body, such as during a particular part of a sermon, or when someone speaks words of kindness and encouragement intentionally and directly to you?
Many thanks
Chloe

Dear Chloe
I am not familiar with the expression “Holy Electricity”, and I suspect it is a Christian term (although the modern Hebrew word for electricity, hashmal, is taken from the name of a type of angel in Ezekiel 1:4).  Be that as it may, I can tell you that in Jewish thought we do have the concept of a person feeling moved, stirred, or motivated by an idea or message encountered in a sermon or even a holy book. Some even associate this with a minor form of heavenly communication (נבואה קטנה). Capture the inspiration!
Best wishes

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
