Dear Rabbi Simon,
How do you guard your eyes in this world?
Ira
Dear Ira
Thank you for your question. Your recognition of the challenge is the beginning of the solution.
Temptation borne of straying eyes is a feature of the human condition since time immemorial (think of the Garden of Eden), but the lure, availability, and consequences are probably more acute in today’s world than ever before.
The Torah itself (Num. 15:39) cautions against “going astray after your eyes”. This is regarded by the Sages as one of the Six Constant Mitzvot. No doubt the challenge requires unceasing vigilance, including avoidance of circumstances which place potentially irresistible temptation in one’s way.
I can recommend an online resource https://guardyoureyes.com/ on this subject.
I hope this is helpful.
Sincerely
Rabbi Rashi Simon
