Non-Kosher Medication

Dear Rabbi Simon,
I wonder if you can help with this query.
My daughter has been given a medication for anxiety around flying. Apparently it contains grape juice – it’s a liquid medication (homeopathic). It’s not marked kosher, so wondering if she would be able to use it?
Many thanks,
Julie

Dear Julie,
Liquid homeopathic medication with a grape juice base is difficult to approve, in the absence of a potential danger to life. Best is to encourage your daughter to enquire about an alternative without grape derivatives. Upholding halakhah is a path to alleviating anxiety as well ?.
Best wishes
Rabbi Rashi Simon

Ask the Rabbi: Quinoa on Pesach
Dear Rabbi Simon,
Where do you stand on quinoa (and the kitniyot ban) for Pesach?
Many thanks,
Tzippy

Dear Tzippy,
In line with other American authorities, I am in favour of quinoa. Although I reject completely the voices (mostly from Israel) seeking to abolish the ban on kitniyot entirely, IMO we do not need to include in the prohibition pseudo-grains that were unknown in the Old World until modern times. Best to buy with a Pesach hechsher though, to be free of any possible wheat contamination.
